WAM -- H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, launched the 27th Abu Dhabi International Book Fair at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
The current cycle of the fair was organised by the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority and will continue until 2nd May, with the participation of 1,320 exhibitors, an increase of 60 from last year, representing 65 countries from around the world, with over 500,000 titles in over 30 languages.
The current Abu Dhabi International Book Fair is celebrating China and is culturally re-launching the Silk Road Project, which has proven its ability to encourage cultural giving and social and scientific openness.
The launch was attended by Dr. Sultan bin Ahmad Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State (Chairman of the Board of Directors of National Media Council, NMC; Dr. Ahmed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Secretary-General of the Executive Council; Eng. Awaidha Murshed Al Marar, Chairman of the Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport; Mohammed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority; Saif Ghobash, Director-General of the Authority; Mansour Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Director-General of the NMC; Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Media Company and the Adviser of Culture and Media in the Office of H.H. Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, as well as a crowd of intellectuals and lovers of literature and books.
H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan launched the pavilion of China, the event’s guest of honour, which is being held for the first time under the banner, "China Reads", while accompanied by Shang Chi, Deputy Minister of State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television in China, and several officials from the friendly countries.
His Highness also visited the pavilion of the Emirates Writers Union, where he was received by Habib Al Sayegh, Secretary-General of the Arab Writers Union and Chairman of the Board of the Emirates Writers Union. His Highness viewed the union’s latest publications while showing his admiration for its literature and artistic works that highlight the cultural movement in the UAE.
