Adding to its collection of Clifton Emblematic pieces and thus strengthening its know-how, Swiss Luxury watch manufacturer, Baume & Mercier recently hosted an exclusive launch of the new Clifton Perpetual Calendar on the 16th of November at Creative Hub in Dubai. The launch took place as part of Dubai Watch Week, a global event dedicated to the craftsmanship and innovation in the watch industry that was held between the 15th and 19th of November at the Dubai International Financial Centre. Baume & Mercier’s Chief Executive Officer, Alain Zimmerman was also in Dubai specifically for the occasion and exhibition and also participated in the Horology Forum discussing “The Evolution of a brand.

In its second year, Dubai Watch Week is held under the Patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice Chairman of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority and in association with the Fondation de Haute Horlogerie (FHH). The education and cultural horology-dedicated event proved to be the perfect platform for Baume & Mercier to internationally launch the new Clifton Perpetual Calendar at, succeeding its pre-launch in China last month. The striking timepiece will now witness another grand launch at the upcoming Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) in Geneva in January 2017. The objective of the launch of the Clifton Perpetual Calendar is to strengthen Baume & Mercier’s watchmaking expertise and fascinate devotees of fine mechanisms. Each year, Baume & Mercier introduces an emblematic piece within the Clifton collection in a bid to revisit with elegance the horological complications that perfectly symbolize the historical values of the Maison.

CLIFTON PERPETUAL CALENDAR

Each year the Clifton Collection offers an exclusive timepiece. A watchmaking exercise Baume & Mercier is committed to achieve within the fascinating universe of complex timekeeping complications. The new Clifton Perpetual Calendar now enriches this collection—a collection already composed of remarkable watches like the flying tourbillon or the 5-minute repeater. Complex and fascinating, this complication perfectly expresses the brand’s legacy and traditional craftsmanship.

An homage to astronomical observation and the beauty of celestial mechanics, the new Clifton Perpetual Calendar embodies one of the most successful and fascinating complications of distinguished watchmaking.  Nestled within a stunning 18K red gold case, this subtle mechanism negotiates all the particularities of the Gregorian calendar with its 31, 30 or 28-day months and the periodic return of February 29th. A truly mechanical challenge for watchmakers, the perpetual calendar is a symbol of human ingenuity for tracking the earth and its moon as they orbit within the solar system. By indicating the date, the day of the week, the month and the phases of the moon, and by automatically keeping track of the variable length of each month and the cycle of leap years, this Clifton Perpetual Calendar establishes itself within the lineage of the most complicated date-tracking watches, those which do not require any date correction before the 1st of March 2100, a non-leap year that appears three centuries out of four.
