The city’s first, purpose-built, multi-format performing arts theatre situated in the heart of Downtown Dubai is all set to host its very first performance this evening with a concert by Placido Domingo, the legendary Spanish tenor, conductor and art administrator. Its opening marks a cultural milestone for the UAE.

Beckoning theatre and culture lovers across the world, Dubai Opera will be the centre stage in the Middle East region of all arts and the home to all genres from ballet classical to musicals and theatre, comedy, family, rock, pop and jazz, ice shows and magic shows of high quality entertainment.

In an earlier interview with Aviamost, the Chief Executive of Dubai Opera Jasper Hope said that would comprise almost 50 shows in four months offering an exciting mix of nationalities and genres.

The graceful, dhow-shaped venue located in 'the most prestigious square kilometer in the world' is a stunning tribute to Dubai’s maritime history. Its exquisite design by architect Janus Rostock presents the exceptional ability to transform into three modes: from a theatre into a concert hall and into a ‘flat floor’ mode transforming into a banquet or event hall. Offering the ultimate flexibility of a proscenium arch theatre, an acoustic concert hall and a 2,000sq m flat floor event space Dubai Opera admirably ranks alongside opera houses in London, Moscow and Paris. It will allow for approximately 2,000 seats for a concert and up to 1,000 for a gala dinner. It also boasts a number of spaces and venues, including a rooftop restaurant and sky garden presenting fabulous views of The Dubai Fountain and the towering Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building.

Dubai Opera perfectly symbolizes the cultural harmony of the emirate which is home to a multitude of nationalities and while inspiring local talent it will also boost the tourism potential of the region.
