In a world where the travel industry faces evolving challenges and opportunities, Ajman, a hidden gem in the United Arab Emirates, is steadily making its mark as a remarkable destination for global travelers. Nestled between the bustling cities of Dubai and Sharjah, Ajman offers an enticing blend of cultural richness, natural beauty, and a commitment to sustainable tourism that sets it apart on the world stage.

Today, we are honored to delve into the distinctive initiatives and forward-looking vision of the Ajman Department of Tourism Development (ADTD). We have the privilege of meeting with His Excellency Mahmood Khaleel Alhashmi, who serves as the Director General of the ADTD, as we focus on their commitment to promoting sustainable tourism in Ajman. In this exclusive interview, we will delve into the strategies and endeavors undertaken by the ADTD to prioritize traveller safety, and cultural and tourism enrichment.

Promoting sustainable tourism for economic growth. Can you tell us more about the initiatives the Ajman Department of Tourism Development (ADTD) has undertaken in this regard?

The ADTD is deeply committed to sustainable tourism development, and we're translating this commitment into action. One significant initiative is the expansion of the Al Zorah Natural Reserve, doubling its size. This demonstrates our dedication to preserving natural habitats and aligns with the UAE's goal to plant 100 million trees, contributing to the 'UAE Net Zero by 2050' target.

Additionally, we're planting hundreds of thousands of mangrove trees within Al Zorah City's natural reserve. The act of planting mangroves not only mitigates the effects of climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide and providing a vital habitat for marine life but also serves as a symbol of unity and environmental stewardship.

We've also organized the "Sustainable Green Tourism and Investment" workshop to promote sustainable tourism practices, emphasizing the role of government policies and regulations in promoting green tourism. Our collaboration with relevant partners is crucial in ensuring the sustainability of the tourism sector. These initiatives are not just about preserving the environment but also have a significant impact on our local economy by attracting eco-conscious travelers and fostering sustainable practices, which, in turn, create employment opportunities and drive economic growth within the emirate.

How has ADTD ensured a safe and culturally enriching experience for travelers?

Safety is of paramount importance in today's world, and we've implemented various strategies to ensure a secure and enriching experience for our visitors. We've renovated cultural attractions such as the Ajman Museum and opened the Masfout enclave, providing a unique glimpse into our heritage. The Poetry Museum, Rashid Al Khadar House, highlights the significance of poetry in our culture.

We've also introduced wellness retreats, such as the UAE's first-ever wellness retreat, Zoya Wellbeing, dedicated to revitalizing the mind, body, and soul while addressing modern health concerns. Additionally, our commitment to halal-friendly tourism options, including halal food, prayer facilities, and accommodations that adhere to Islamic principles, is crucial for Muslim travelers.

Ensuring wellness and safety measures in hotels and resorts, adhering to health and safety protocols, and offering social media and language support further enhance the visitor experience. These strategies collectively attract diverse traveler segments and promote Ajman as a safe and culturally enriching destination.

Could you elaborate on the unique selling points and attractive experiences that set Ajman apart in the global travel market?

Ajman distinguishes itself with several unique selling points. We offer rich cultural experiences, including visits to traditional markets, heritage sites, and local cuisine, allowing travelers to immerse themselves in our culture while enjoying modern amenities. The ease of accessibility to Ajman from major cities is a significant advantage, making travel convenient. Authentic cuisine and local festivals, like the Ajman Liwa Dates & Honey Festival add to the vibrancy of our destination.

Our focus on wellness and spa facilities caters to the growing trend of wellness tourism, offering relaxation and rejuvenation. Moreover, we provide exceptional value for money compared to other luxury destinations, with special deals, discounts, and all-inclusive packages. Our robust social media presence and positive word-of-mouth through reviews and testimonials significantly influence potential tourists, particularly those in London and around the world.

How is Ajman preserving its cultural heritage in this changing tourism landscape?

Our commitment to preserving and displaying our rich cultural heritage is evident through several initiatives. We're renovating cultural attractions such as the Ajman Museum and opening the Masfout enclave. The Poetry Museum, Rashid Al Khadar House, highlights the significance of poetry in our region. We're actively promoting cultural experiences, such as visits to traditional markets and heritage sites, encouraging tourists to leave positive reviews and testimonials about their cultural experiences. These initiatives not only attract cultural and heritage tourists but also contribute to the preservation of Ajman's unique identity and cultural heritage.

What are the future plans and partnerships in place to ensure the continued growth and success of Ajman in the global travel industry?

The future holds exciting possibilities for Ajman. We're actively seeking cooperation with relevant partners to ensure the sustainability of the tourism sector. In addition to sustainable initiatives, we're embracing medical tourism and partnering with organizations like Thumbay Group to attract more individuals to Ajman's medical facilities and healthcare centers.

We've introduced flexible alternatives for property owners and hotel management companies through 'Holiday Homes' initiative providing more options for tourists. Creating pedestrian walkways and luxury resorts will enhance the visitor experience and add to the allure of Ajman. Our vision is dynamic and innovative, ensuring our continued growth and success in the ever-changing global travel industry.
